Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is established under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, as an autonomous body. The FSSAI is governed by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which regulates standards related to food safety and regulation in India.
It is an obligation for all Food Business Operators (FBO) to acquire FSSAI license or food licenses. FSSAI lays down the standards for the articles of food. Also, the manufacturing, storage, distribution, sale and the import of food articles is regulated by FSSAI in order to ensure the availability of safe and wholesome food to people residing in the country.
